What is a Electrocardiogram (ECG Testing)?
An Electrocardiogram Test (ECG or EKG) is a simple, yet extremely useful investigative tool, to monitor the heart’s electrical activity. It’s especially recommended for anyone suspected of having an arrhythmia, coronary heart disease, cardiomyopathy or heart attacks.
Please note that for ECG tests you must book a 30-minute appointment.
The chances of having these issues are increased if you have some lifestyle factors such as:
- Smoking
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- High-fat diet
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Excessive alcohol consumption
Some of the heart attack symptoms could include:
- Chest Pain
- This is sometimes only mild, and in some cases may be mistaken for -indigestion
- In some cases, this pain can also radiate to other parts of the body such as the jaw, back, arms and neck
- Feeling weak or lightheaded
- Sudden feelings of severe anxiety
- Shortness of breath
At London Doctors Clinic, all of our clinics are stocked with standard 12-lead ECG machines, and all of our GP’s well-trained in performing the test and interpreting results.
An ECG test can be performed in a simple 30-minute appointment with our GP’s.
If you feel you would benefit from electrocardiogram investigation, simply book in online for a 30-minute consultation, making sure to mention your interest in an ECG in the Notes section when booking. If we’re forewarned of your request, we’ll almost certainly be able to perform the ECG exam during that same appointment. Please note – patients with a significant amount of chest-hair are recommended to shave their chests beforehand in preparation for the ECG stickers.
ECGs can also be a part of a full medical check up, a more comprehensive evaluation of a person’s health which can include more detailed analysis of family history, lifestyle, and a range of blood tests.
So book a 30-minute appointment at any of our 17 London Clinics, or give us a call or email for more information.
