Male Menopause (Andropause)
It is increasingly recognised that hormonal changes in men, as they pass middle age, can have profound effects on overall health, mood and energy levels. This is sometimes known as ‘the male menopause‘.
Andropause is thought to affect men in their late 40’s and early 50’s. Symptoms may include:
- Lethargy (tiredness)
- Gynaecomastia (the development of male breasts)
- Loss of libido
- Mood changes, irritability
- Insomnia
Should you be concerned about Andropause, or are displaying any of the above symptoms, it may be beneficial to book a GP appointment for investigation. These symptoms may also be an indication for other disease or condition, so a GP may recommend a few different blood tests.
Common blood tests for Andropause investigation include:
-
- Testosterone (TEST) – £61.60, results in 4-6 hours
- Male hormone profile – £211.20, results in 4-6 hours. Includes:
- FSH
- LH
- Testosterone
- Free Androgen Index
- Prolactin
- SHBG
- Andropause Profile – £256, results in 8 hours. Includes:
- DHEAs
- FSH
- Testosterone
- Free Androgen Index
- LH
- SHBG
Testing, diagnosing and treatments (including testosterone) can have a big effect on men’s health and wellbeing. Please note that testosterone should be tested before 11am as it will fluctuate through the day.
Premature Ejaculation
This is also a very common Men’s Health issue, with our GP’s regularly advising our male patients on the matter.
Our GP’s can also discuss and advise on other ejaculation problems, such as delayed or retrograde ejaculation, as well as any general concerns with regard to sexual performance or dysfunction, such as psychosexual anxieties.
Prostate Examination
Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer for men, especially those over the age of 50. At London Doctors Clinic, we can do prostate examinations as well as PSA Tests to investigate the possibly of prostate cancer.
Stress Management
Of course, both men and women can suffer from stress from time to time. However, different genders may deal with this stress differently. Our doctors are more than happy to discuss and advise stress management during a 15 or 30-minute consultation. Click here fore more information on our Mental Health services.
Testicular Examination
For testicular concerns, a GP would be the first port-of-call for examination of any suspicious lumps, aches, pain or unusual symptoms. From here, should our GP’s have any concerns, we can refer you onto private partner clinics for further investigation, such as an ultrasound scan or biopsy, or even a referral directly to a urology specialist if need be.
Testicular lumps are often benign, however with lumps and swelling being symptoms associated with testicular cancer. It’s always worth getting checked by a qualified doctor.
Our GP’s can also advise and arrange treatment for a variety of other testicular conditions, such as epididymo-orchitis, varicoceles, hydroceles and infections.
